'Bout the Show:

Babies Mit Bearden's main Long-form known as CCE is a three man show that was inspired by some late night rehearsing and the consumption of great amounts of Red Bull. While rehearsing in April of 2003, Babies mit Bearden created the mind-melding phenomenon known as “Captain. Corporal. Ensign!” It was an instant keeper. Over the next few months, we worked out a 25 minute show that uses the game “Captain. Corporal. Ensign!” as a springboard for the action in the main segment.

The show is comprised of three segments. It opens with CCE the continuing chronicle of three non-seaworthy officers who operate the sailing vessel U.S.S. mit Bearden. The officers are the Captain, the Corporal, and the Ensign. This segment follows a very simple pattern. Influenced by a suggestion, the professionalism of these officers is ultimately corrupted by the fact that they don’t know what they are doing at the helm of a seafaring craft. The show then transitions to the narrative segment of the show. This segment is a series of open scenes which introduces a set of characters in the midst of discovering their purpose, witnesses defining moments in their relationships, and reveals the ultimate success or failure of their actions. The show transitions once more to a reprise of the game "Captain. Corporal. Ensign!"

Additionally, BMB performs Harold's Blind (a live performance done in the dark) Highwire (a 15 minute venture into one real time moment in the lives of two characters) and The William Tell (there is really no way to explain this form. You'd just have to see it.)

BMB has been working with JaCKPie Productions and University since 2003 and recently became founding members of the JaCKPie Theatre Workshop. JTW's current venture is Podcasting which will be available starting in September of 2005.

'Bout the Ensemble:

Babies mit Bearden is a four-man troupe. The four men are Brad Kloth, Damian Dunn, Mike Brune, and Kasey Libby. They have been friends for ages and are now using that friendship as a force of good in improv comedy.

Brad, Damian, and Kasey are graduates of the University of Georgia. After college, they began their improv education at Dad’s Garage in Atlanta. Brad and Damian later founded 2nd Base Comedy in Roswell, Georgia, in 2000. Kasey, while living in New York, studied with the Upright Citizen’s Brigade. He eventually moved back to Atlanta and performed with 2nd Base. Soon after, all three felt a malaise come over them. Then they met Jim Karwisch, the shorter half of Atlanta’s JaCKPie. The three studied long form and the Harold with Jim over the period of a year. At long last, they formed their very own three-man troupe, Babies mit Bearden.

Meanwhile, Mike had been attending Georgia State University, studying film and becoming active in the school’s resident improv group. Soon after, he joined the Comedy Response Unit in Atlanta, and that is where he began performing long-form improv—also under the tutelage of Jim Karwisch. Performing with JaCKPie, Mike met Brad, Damian, and Kasey, and immediately the three-man troupe became four.

Brad, Damian, Mike, and Kasey work very well together. They each play very distinct roles in their troupe and can read each others’ minds (right now, Damian has gas, Brad is thinking about pizza, Mike is watching a DVD, and Kasey’s mind rests in some netherworld). They have performed together for three years in both long and short forms, including all four performing with JaCKPie in the 2004 and 2005 Atlanta Improv Festival. Babies mit Bearden has also performed at Georgia Tech’s Black Box Improv Festival in September of 2004, the Horizon theater, the Mask Center Studio 008, and 7 Stages theater.
